Adapter Georgian Text expands on a multiscript text family with a focus on ergonomics, rhythm, and readability. It is designed to work effortlessly across different sizes, with accentuated details, generous spacing, and slightly squared counters that help it perform well at lower resolutions.

When I started this project, I was quite anxious—it was my first low-contrast typeface, and I knew this style could be unforgiving. But before stressing over the shapes, I had to figure out the proportions of the Georgian script in relation to Latin. The goal was to keep it harmonious in a multiscript setting while staying true to Georgian proportions and reading habits.

In the Georgian Mkhedruli script, ascenders and descenders play a crucial role in readability—they define the structure of several key characters. To accommodate this, the typeface features extended ascenders and descenders, paired with a shorter x-height to balance out the ample space within the glyphs. All of this is complemented by strategically placed ink traps, ensuring the typeface blends seamlessly with other scripts in the family.
With a comprehensive character set, Adapter Georgian includes both lowercase Mkhedruli letters and capital Mtavruli forms. Beyond Georgian, it supports other Kartvelian languages, including Laz, Mingrelian, and Svan.
Adapter Georgian Text was awarded 1st Prize and a Grand Prize at GRANSHAN 2023/24.
